qtest_server_send is a function pointer specifying the handler used to transmit data to the qtest client. qtest "rtas" command is only available with pseries not all ppc64 targets, so if I try to compile only powernv machine, the build fails with: /usr/bin/ld: qtest.o: in function `qtest_process_command': .../qtest.c:645: undefined reference to `qtest_rtas_call' We fix this by enabling rtas command only with pseries machine. 2020-02-20Avoid address_space_rw() with a constant is_write argumentPeter Maydell
The address_space_rw() function allows either reads or writes depending on the is_write argument passed to it; this is useful when the direction of the access is determined programmatically (as for instance when handling the KVM_EXIT_MMIO exit reason). Under the hood it just calls either address_space_write() or address_space_read_full(). We also use it a lot with a constant is_write argument, though, which has two issues: * when reading "address_space_rw(..., 1)" this is less immediately clear to the reader as being a write than "address_space_write(...)" * calling address_space_rw() bypasses the optimization in address_space_read() that fast-paths reads of a fixed length This commit was produced with the included Coccinelle script scripts/coccinelle/exec_rw_const.cocci. 2019-08-20util/qemu-timer: refactor deadline calculation for external timersPavel Dovgalyuk
icount-based record/replay uses qemu_clock_deadline_ns_all to measure the period until vCPU may be interrupted. This function takes in account the virtual timers, because they belong to the virtual devices that may generate interrupt request or affect the virtual machine state. However, there are a subset of virtual timers, that are marked with 'external' flag. These do not change the virtual machine state and only based on virtual clock. Calculating the deadling using the external timers breaks the determinism, because they do not belong to the replayed part of the virtual machine. This patch fixes the deadline calculation for this case by adding new parameter for skipping the external timers when it is needed. sysemu/sysemu.h is a rather unfocused dumping ground for stuff related to the system-emulator. Evidence: * It's included widely: in my "build everything" tree, changing sysemu/sysemu.h still triggers a recompile of some 1100 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h, down from 5400 due to the previous two commits). * It pulls in more than a dozen additional headers. Split stuff related to run state management into its own header sysemu/runstate.h. Touching sysemu/sysemu.h now recompiles some 850 objects. qemu/uuid.h also drops from 1100 to 850, and qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h from 4400 to 4200. Touching new sysemu/runstate.h recompiles some 500 objects. Since I'm touching MAINTAINERS to add sysemu/runstate.h anyway, also add qemu/main-loop.h. In my "build everything" tree, changing hw/qdev-properties.h triggers a recompile of some 2700 out of 6600 objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on qemu/osdep.h). Many places including hw/qdev-properties.h (directly or via hw/qdev.h) actually need only hw/qdev-core.h. Include hw/qdev-core.h there instead. hw/qdev.h is actually pointless: all it does is include hw/qdev-core.h and hw/qdev-properties.h, which in turn includes hw/qdev-core.h. Replace the remaining uses of hw/qdev.h by hw/qdev-properties.h. While there, delete a few superfluous inclusions of hw/qdev-core.h. Touching hw/qdev-properties.h now recompiles some 1200 objects. QTest has two parts: the server (-qtest) and the accelerator (-machine accel=qtest). The accelerator depends on CONFIG_POSIX due to its usage of sigwait(), but the server doesn't. Move the accel code to accel/qtest.c. Later we will disable compilation of accel/qtest.c on non-POSIX systems. 2017-01-12libqtest: handle zero length memwrite/memreadGreg Kurz
Some recently added tests pass a zero length to qtest_memwrite(). Unfortunately, the qtest protocol doesn't implement an on-the-wire syntax for zero-length writes and the current code happily sends garbage to QEMU. This causes intermittent failures. It isn't worth the pain to enhance the protocol, so this patch simply fixes the issue by "just return, doing nothing". The same fix is applied to qtest_memread() since the issue also exists in the QEMU part of the "memread" command. Commit 57cb38b included qapi/error.h into qemu/osdep.h to get the Error typedef. Since then, we've moved to include qemu/osdep.h everywhere. Its file comment explains: "To avoid getting into possible circular include dependencies, this file should not include any other QEMU headers, with the exceptions of config-host.h, compiler.h, os-posix.h and os-win32.h, all of which are doing a similar job to this file and are under similar constraints." qapi/error.h doesn't do a similar job, and it doesn't adhere to similar constraints: it includes qapi-types.h. That's in excess of 100KiB of crap most .c files don't actually need. Add the typedef to qemu/typedefs.h, and include that instead of qapi/error.h. Include qapi/error.h in .c files that need it and don't get it now. Include qapi-types.h in qom/object.h for uint16List. Update scripts/clean-includes accordingly. Update it further to match reality: replace config.h by config-target.h, add sysemu/os-posix.h, sysemu/os-win32.h. Update the list of includes in the qemu/osdep.h comment quoted above similarly. This reduces the number of objects depending on qapi/error.h from "all of them" to less than a third. Unfortunately, the number depending on qapi-types.h shrinks only a little. For larger pieces of data that won't need to be debugged and viewing the hex nibbles is unlikely to be useful, we can encode data using base64 instead of encoding each byte as %02x, which leads to some space savings and faster reads/writes. For now, the default is left as hex nibbles in memwrite() and memread(). For the purposes of making qtest io easier to read and debug, some callers may want to specify using the old encoding format for small patches of data where the savings from base64 wouldn't be that profound. memwrite/memread use a data encoding that takes 2x the size of the original buffer, but base64 uses "only" (4/3)x, so for larger buffers we can save a decent amount of time and space. Use glib's string facilities to allow arbitrarily long data, but split this off into a new function, qtest_sendf. Today, all accelerator init functions affect some global state: * tcg_init() calls tcg_exec_init() and affects globals such as tcg_tcx, page size globals, and possibly others; * kvm_init() changes the kvm_state global, cpu_interrupt_handler, and possibly others; * xen_init() changes the xen_xc global, and registers a change state handler. With the new accelerator QOM classes, initialization may now be split in two steps: * instance_init() will do basic initialization that doesn't affect any global state and don't need MachineState or MachineClass data. This will allow probing code to safely create multiple accelerator objects on the fly just for reporting host/accelerator capabilities, for example. * accel_init_machine()/init_machine() will save the accelerator object in MachineState, and do initialization steps which still affect global state, machine state, or that need data from MachineClass or MachineState.
