2012-06-22Makefile.hw: avoid overly large 'make clean' rm commandPeter Maydell
Avoid 'make clean' producing an 'rm' command which has a lot of duplicate 'hw//*.o' arguments, by using $(sort $(dir ..)) rather than $(dir $(sort ..)) so Make's sort function will remove the duplicates for us. We can also remove the double '//' safely because $(dir ..) is guaranteed to return a string ending in '/'. The vpath directive has two advantages over the VPATH variable: 1) it allows to skip searching of .o files; 2) the default semantics are to append to the vpath, so there is no confusion between "VPATH=xyz" and "VPATH+=xyz". Since "vpath %.c %.h PATH" is not valid, I'm introducing a wrapper macro to append one or more directories to the vpath. Juan has contributed a cool Makefile infrastructure that enables us to drop static libraries completely: Move shared obj-y definitions to Makefile.objs, prefixed {common-,hw-,user-}, and link those object files directly into the executables. Replace HWLIB by HWDIR, specifying only the directory. Drop --whole-archive and ARLIBS in Makefiles and configure. Drop GENERATED_HEADERS dependency in rules.mak, since this rebuilds all common objects after generating a target-specific header; add dependency rules to Makefile and Makefile.target instead. v2: - Don't try to include /config.mak for user emulators - Changes to user object paths ("Quickfix for libuser.a drop") were obsoleted by "user_only: compile everything with -fpie" (Kirill A. Callers must pass ELF machine, byte swapping and symbol LSB clearing information to ELF loader. A.out loader needs page size information, pass that too as a parameter. Extract prototypes to a separate file. Move loader.[ch] and elf_ops.h under hw. Adjust callers. Also use target_phys_addr_t instead of target_ulong for addresses: loader addresses aren't virtual. 2009-07-16qdev: rework device properties.Gerd Hoffmann
This patch is a major overhaul of the device properties. The properties are saved directly in the device state struct now, the linked list of property values is gone. Advantages: * We don't have to maintain the list with the property values. * The value in the property list and the value actually used by the device can't go out of sync any more (used to happen for the pci.devfn == -1 case) because there is only one place where the value is stored. * A record describing the property is required now, you can't set random properties any more. There are bus-specific and device-specific properties. The former should be used for properties common to all bus drivers. Typical use case is bus addressing, i.e. pci.devfn and i2c.address. Properties have a PropertyInfo struct attached with name, size and function pointers to parse and print properties. A few common property types have PropertyInfos defined in qdev-properties.c. Drivers are free to implement their own very special property parsers if needed. Properties can have default values. If unset they are zero-filled. The only target dependency for most hardware is sizeof(target_phys_addr_t). Build these files into a convenience library, and use that instead of building for every target. Remove and poison various target specific macros to avoid bogus target dependencies creeping back in.
