2019-05-07net: ethernet: support of_get_mac_address new ERR_PTR errorPetr Štetiar
There was NVMEM support added to of_get_mac_address, so it could now return ERR_PTR encoded error values, so we need to adjust all current users of of_get_mac_address to this new fact. While at it, remove superfluous is_valid_ether_addr as the MAC address returned from of_get_mac_address is always valid and checked by is_valid_ether_addr anyway. 2018-12-15net: socionext: remove mmio reads on TxIlias Apalodimas
Currently the driver issues 2 mmio reads to figure out the number of transmitted packets and clean them. We can get rid of the expensive reads since BIT 31 of the Tx descriptor can be used for that. We can also remove the budget counting of Tx completions since all of the descriptors are not deliberately processed. Performance numbers using pktgen are: size pre-patch(pps) post-patch(pps) 64 362483 427916 128 358315 411686 256 352725 389683 512 215675 216464 1024 113812 114442 Signed-off-by: Ilias Apalodimas <ilias.apalodimas@linaro.org> Signed-off-by: David S. 2018-12-15net: socionext: correctly recover txq after being fullIlias Apalodimas
Running pktgen with packets sizes > 512b ends up in the interface Txq getting stuck. "netsec 522d0000.ethernet eth0: netsec_netdev_start_xmit: TxQFull!" appears on dmesg but the interface never recovers. It requires an ifconfig down/up to make the interface usable again. The reason that triggers this, is a race condition between .ndo_start_xmit and the napi completion. The available budget is calculated first and indicates the queue is full. Due to a costly netif_err() the queue is not stopped in time while the napi completion runs, clears the irq and frees up descriptors, thus the queue never wakes up again. Fix this by moving the print after stopping the queue, make the print ratelimited, add barriers and check for cleaned descriptors.. 2018-12-09Merge git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/netDavid S. Miller
Several conflicts, seemingly all over the place. I used Stephen Rothwell's sample resolutions for many of these, if not just to double check my own work, so definitely the credit largely goes to him. The NFP conflict consisted of a bug fix (moving operations past the rhashtable operation) while chaning the initial argument in the function call in the moved code. The net/dsa/master.c conflict had to do with a bug fix intermixing of making dsa_master_set_mtu() static with the fixing of the tagging attribute location. cls_flower had a conflict because the dup reject fix from Or overlapped with the addition of port range classifiction. __set_phy_supported()'s conflict was relatively easy to resolve because Andrew fixed it in both trees, so it was just a matter of taking the net-next copy. Or at least I think it was :-) Joe Stringer's fix to the handling of netns id 0 in bpf_sk_lookup() intermixed with changes on how the sdif and caller_net are calculated in these code paths in net-next. The remaining BPF conflicts were largely about the addition of the __bpf_md_ptr stuff in 'net' overlapping with adjustments and additions to the relevant data structure where the MD pointer macros are used. 2018-11-29net: ethernet: ave: Replace NET_IP_ALIGN with AVE_FRAME_HEADROOMKunihiko Hayashi
In commit 26a4676faa1a ("arm64: mm: define NET_IP_ALIGN to 0"), AVE controller affects this modification because the controller forces to ignore lower 2bits of buffer start address, and make 2-byte headroom, that is, data reception starts from (buffer + 2). 2018-11-29net: ethernet: ave: Set initial wol state to disabledKunihiko Hayashi
If wol state of phy hardware is enabled after reset, phy_ethtool_get_wol() returns that wol.wolopts is true. However, since net_device.wol_enabled is zero and this doesn't apply wol state until calling ethtool_set_wol(), so mdio_bus_phy_may_suspend() returns true, that is, it's in a state where phy can suspend even though wol state is enabled. In this inconsistency, phy_suspend() returns -EBUSY, and at last, suspend sequence fails with the following message: dpm_run_callback(): mdio_bus_phy_suspend+0x0/0x58 returns -16 PM: Device 65000000.ethernet-ffffffff:01 failed to suspend: error -16 PM: Some devices failed to suspend, or early wake event detected In order to fix the above issue, this patch forces to set initial wol state to disabled as default. 2018-11-08net: socionext: different approach on DMAIlias Apalodimas
Current driver dynamically allocates an skb and maps it as DMA Rx buffer. In order to prepare for upcoming XDP changes, let's introduce a different allocation scheme. Buffers are allocated dynamically and mapped into hardware. During the Rx operation the driver uses build_skb() to produce the necessary buffers for the network stack. 2018-10-23net: socionext: Add dummy PHY register read in phy_write()Masahisa Kojima
There is a compatibility issue between RTL8211E implemented in Developerbox and netsec ethernet controller IP. Our MDIO controller stops MDC clock right after the write access, but RTL8211E expects MDC clock must be kept toggling for several clock cycle with MDIO high before entering the IDLE state. Without keeping clock after write access, write access is not correctly handled and register is not updated. To meet this requirement, netsec driver needs to issue dummy read(e.g. read PHYID1(offset 0x2) register) right after write access, to keep MDC clock. We think this compatibility issue is a problem specific to our MDIO controller and RTL8211E. 2018-10-23net: socionext: Stop PHY before resetting netsecMasahisa Kojima
In ndo_stop, driver resets the netsec ethernet controller IP. When the netsec IP is reset, HW running mode turns to NRM mode and driver has to wait until this mode transition completes. But mode transition to NRM will not complete if the PHY is in normal operation state. Netsec IP requires PHY is in power down state when it is reset. This modification stops the PHY before resetting netsec. Together with this modification, phy_addr is stored in netsec_priv structure because ndev->phydev is not yet ready in ndo_init. 2018-06-12treewide: kzalloc() -> kcalloc()Kees Cook
The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). This patch replaces cases of: kzalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kcalloc(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kzalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kzalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kzalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were dropped, since they're redundant. 2018-05-28net: netsec: reduce DMA mask to 40 bitsArd Biesheuvel
The netsec network controller IP can drive 64 address bits for DMA, and the DMA mask is set accordingly in the driver. However, the SynQuacer SoC, which is the only silicon incorporating this IP at the moment, integrates this IP in a manner that leaves address bits [63:40] unconnected. Up until now, this has not resulted in any problems, given that the DDR controller doesn't decode those bits to begin with. However, recent firmware updates for platforms incorporating this SoC allow the IOMMU to be enabled, which does decode address bits [47:40], and allocates top down from the IOVA space, producing DMA addresses that have bits set that have been left unconnected. Both the DT and ACPI (IORT) descriptions of the platform take this into account, and only describe a DMA address space of 40 bits (using either dma-ranges DT properties, or DMA address limits in IORT named component nodes). However, even though our IOMMU and bus layers may take such limitations into account by setting a narrower DMA mask when creating the platform device, the netsec probe() entrypoint follows the common practice of setting the DMA mask uncondionally, according to the capabilities of the IP block itself rather than to its integration into the chip. It is currently unclear what the correct fix is here. We could hack around it by only setting the DMA mask if it deviates from its default value of DMA_BIT_MASK(32). However, this makes it impossible for the bus layer to use DMA_BIT_MASK(32) as the bus limit, and so it appears that a more comprehensive approach is required to take DMA limits imposed by the SoC as a whole into account. In the mean time, let's limit the DMA mask to 40 bits. Given that there is currently only one SoC that incorporates this IP, this is a reasonable approach that can be backported to -stable and buys us some time to come up with a proper fix going forward. 2018-04-20net: ethernet: ave: add support for phy-mode setting of system controllerKunihiko Hayashi
This patch adds support for specifying system controller that configures phy-mode setting. According to the DT property "phy-mode", it's necessary to configure the controller, which is used to choose the settings of the MAC suitable, for example, mdio pin connections, internal clocks, and so on. Supported phy-modes are SoC-dependent. The driver allows phy-mode to set "internal" if the SoC has a built-in PHY, and {"mii", "rmii", "rgmii"} if the SoC supports each mode. So we have to check whether the phy-mode is valid or not. This adds the following features for each SoC: - check whether the SoC supports the specified phy-mode - configure the controller accroding to phy-mode The DT property accepts one argument to distinguish them for multiple MAC instances. ethernet@65000000 { ... socionext,syscon-phy-mode = <&soc_glue 0>; }; ethernet@65200000 { ... socionext,syscon-phy-mode = <&soc_glue 1>; }; Signed-off-by: Kunihiko Hayashi <hayashi.kunihiko@socionext.com> Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <yamada.masahiro@socionext.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2018-04-20net: ethernet: ave: add multiple clocks and resets support as required propertyKunihiko Hayashi
When the link is becoming up for Pro4 SoC, the kernel is stalled due to some missing clocks and resets. The AVE block for Pro4 is connected to the GIO bus in the SoC. Without its clock/reset, the access to the AVE register makes the system stall. In the same way, another MAC clock for Giga-bit Connection and the PHY clock are also required for Pro4 to activate the Giga-bit feature and to recognize the PHY. To satisfy these requirements, this patch adds support for multiple clocks and resets, and adds the clock-names and reset-names to the binding because we need to distinguish clock/reset for the AVE main block and the others. Also, make the resets a required property. Currently, "reset is optional" relies on that the bootloader or firmware has deasserted the reset before booting the kernel. Drivers should work without such expectation. 2018-04-16net: socionext: reset hardware in ndo_stopMasahisa KOJIMA
When the interface is down, head/tail of the descriptor ring address is set to 0 in netsec_netdev_stop(). But netsec hardware still keeps the previous descriptor ring address, so there is inconsistency between driver and hardware after interface is up at a later time. To address this inconsistency, add netsec_reset_hardware() when the interface is down. In addition, to minimize the reset process, add flag to decide whether driver loads the netsec microcode. Even if driver resets the netsec hardware, netsec microcode keeps resident on RAM, so it is ok we only load the microcode at initialization. This patch is critical for installation over network. On targets that have different sizes for phys_addr_t and dma_addr_t, we get a type mismatch error: drivers/net/ethernet/socionext/netsec.c: In function 'netsec_alloc_dring': drivers/net/ethernet/socionext/netsec.c:970:9: error: passing argument 3 of 'dma_zalloc_coherent' from incompatible pointer type [-Werror=incompatible-pointer-types] The code is otherwise correct, as the address is never actually used as a physical address but only passed into a DMA register.
