2019-04-01net: move skb->xmit_more hint to softnet dataFlorian Westphal
There are two reasons for this. First, the xmit_more flag conceptually doesn't fit into the skb, as xmit_more is not a property related to the skb. Its only a hint to the driver that the stack is about to transmit another packet immediately. Second, it was only done this way to not have to pass another argument to ndo_start_xmit(). We can place xmit_more in the softnet data, next to the device recursion. The recursion counter is already written to on each transmit. The "more" indicator is placed right next to it. Drivers can use the netdev_xmit_more() helper instead of skb->xmit_more to check the "more packets coming" hint. skb->xmit_more is retained (but always 0) to not cause build breakage. This change takes care of the simple s/skb->xmit_more/netdev_xmit_more()/ conversions. Remaining drivers are converted in the next patches. 2019-03-07enic: fix build warning without CONFIG_CPUMASK_OFFSTACKArnd Bergmann
The enic driver relies on the CONFIG_CPUMASK_OFFSTACK feature to dynamically allocate a struct member, but this is normally intended for local variables. Building with clang, I get a warning for a few locations that check the address of the cpumask_var_t: drivers/net/ethernet/cisco/enic/enic_main.c:122:22: error: address of array 'enic->msix[i].affinity_mask' will always evaluate to 'true' [-Werror,-Wpointer-bool-conversion] As far as I can tell, the code is still correct, as the truth value of the pointer is what we need in this configuration. To get rid of the warning, use cpumask_available() instead of checking the pointer directly. 2019-02-01enic: fix checksum validation for IPv6Govindarajulu Varadarajan
In case of IPv6 pkts, ipv4_csum_ok is 0. Because of this, driver does not set skb->ip_summed. So IPv6 rx checksum is not offloaded. Signed-off-by: Govindarajulu Varadarajan <gvaradar@cisco.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2018-12-06net: core: dev: Add extack argument to dev_open()Petr Machata
In order to pass extack together with NETDEV_PRE_UP notifications, it's necessary to route the extack to __dev_open() from diverse (possibly indirect) callers. One prominent API through which the notification is invoked is dev_open(). Therefore extend dev_open() with and extra extack argument and update all users. Most of the calls end up just encoding NULL, but bond and team drivers have the extack readily available. vnic_dev_register(), vnic_rq_alloc_bufs() and vnic_wq_alloc_bufs() are never called in atomic context. They call kzalloc() with GFP_ATOMIC, which is not necessary. GFP_ATOMIC can be replaced with GFP_KERNEL. This is found by a static analysis tool named DCNS written by myself. 2018-07-31enic: do not call enic_change_mtu in enic_probeGovindarajulu Varadarajan
In commit ab123fe071c9 ("enic: handle mtu change for vf properly") ASSERT_RTNL() is added to _enic_change_mtu() to prevent it from being called without rtnl held. enic_probe() calls enic_change_mtu() without rtnl held. Commit d11790941dd3 ("enic: Add vxlan offload support for IPv6 pkts") added vxlan offload support for IPv6 pkts. Required change in enic_udp_tunnel_del was not made. 2017-11-21treewide: setup_timer() -> timer_setup()Kees Cook
This converts all remaining cases of the old setup_timer() API into using timer_setup(), where the callback argument is the structure already holding the struct timer_list. These should have no behavioral changes, since they just change which pointer is passed into the callback with the same available pointers after conversion. It handles the following examples, in addition to some other variations. Casting from unsigned long: void my_callback(unsigned long data) { struct something *ptr = (struct something *)data; ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, ptr); and forced object casts: void my_callback(struct something *ptr) { ... } ... setup_timer(&ptr->my_timer, my_callback, (unsigned long)ptr); 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. 2016-10-29enic: fix rq disableGovindarajulu Varadarajan
When MTU is changed from 9000 to 1500 while there is burst of inbound 9000 bytes packets, adaptor sometimes delivers 9000 bytes packets to 1500 bytes buffers. This causes memory corruption and sometimes crash. This is because of a race condition in adaptor between "RQ disable" clearing descriptor mini-cache and mini-cache valid bit being set by completion of descriptor fetch. This can result in stale RQ desc being cached and used when packets arrive. In this case, the stale descriptor have old MTU value. Solution is to write RQ->disable twice. The first write will stop any further desc fetches, allowing the second disable to clear the mini-cache valid bit without danger of a race. Also, the check for rq->running becoming 0 after writing rq->enable to 0 is not done properly. When incoming packets are flooding the interface, rq->running will pulse high for each dropped packet. Since the driver was waiting for 10us between each poll, it is possible to see rq->running = 1 1000 times in a row, even though it is not actually stuck running. This results in false failure of vnic_rq_disable(). Fix is to try more than 1000 time without delay between polls to ensure we do not miss when running goes low. In old adaptors rq->enable needs to be re-written to 0 when posted_index is reset in vnic_rq_clean() in order to keep rq->prefetch_index in sync. 2016-02-09enic: increment devcmd2 result ring in case of timeoutSandeep Pillai
Firmware posts the devcmd result in result ring. In case of timeout, driver does not increment the current result pointer and firmware could post the result after timeout has occurred. During next devcmd, driver would be reading the result of previous devcmd. Fix this by incrementing result even in case of timeout. 2015-11-18net: provide generic busy polling to all NAPI driversEric Dumazet
NAPI drivers no longer need to observe a particular protocol to benefit from busy polling (CONFIG_NET_RX_BUSY_POLL=y) napi_hash_add() and napi_hash_del() are automatically called from core networking stack, respectively from netif_napi_add() and netif_napi_del() This patch depends on free_netdev() and netif_napi_del() being called from process context, which seems to be the norm. Drivers might still prefer to call napi_hash_del() on their own, since they might combine all the rcu grace periods into a single one, knowing their NAPI structures lifetime, while core networking stack has no idea of a possible combining. Once this patch proves to not bring serious regressions, we will cleanup drivers to either remove napi_hash_del() or provide appropriate rcu grace periods combining.
