This commit sets the power of the average CPU in SMP systems to SCHED_CAPACITY_SCALE. Ignoring the condition "min_capacity==max_capacity" causes the function update_cpu_power( .. ) to generate out of range values. This is because the default value of middle_capacity is used in the final calculation instead of a valid scaling factor. Incidentally, when out of range values are generated and if SCHED_FEAT(ARCH_POWER) is true, the load balancing algorithm makes incorrect scheduling decisions typically overallocating all the work on one of the CPU cores. When running a compat (AArch32) userspace on Cortex-A53, a load at EL0 from a virtual address that matches the bottom 32 bits of the virtual address used by a recent load at (AArch64) EL1 might return incorrect data. This patch works around the issue by writing to the contextidr_el1 register on the exception return path when returning to a 32-bit task. 2015-05-06xtensa: provide __NR_sync_file_range2 instead of __NR_sync_file_rangeMax Filippov

That fixes userspace interface (that apparently never worked) and avoids special-casing xtensa in libc implementations. 2015-05-06ARM: 8320/1: fix integer overflow in ELF_ET_DYN_BASEAndrey Ryabinin
commit 8defb3367fcd19d1af64c07792aade0747b54e0f upstream. Usually ELF_ET_DYN_BASE is 2/3 of TASK_SIZE. With 3G/1G user/kernel split this is not so, because 2*TASK_SIZE overflows 32 bits, so the actual value of ELF_ET_DYN_BASE is: (2 * TASK_SIZE / 3) = 0x2a000000 When ASLR is disabled PIE binaries will load at ELF_ET_DYN_BASE address. On 32bit platforms AddressSanitzer uses addresses [0x20000000 - 0x40000000] for shadow memory [1]. So ASan doesn't work for PIE binaries when ASLR disabled as it fails to map shadow memory. Also after Kees's 'split ET_DYN ASLR from mmap ASLR' patchset PIE binaries has a high chance of loading somewhere in between [0x2a000000 - 0x40000000] even if ASLR enabled. This makes ASan with PIE absolutely incompatible. Fix overflow by dividing TASK_SIZE prior to multiplying. 2015-05-06s390/hibernate: fix save and restore of kernel text sectionHeiko Carstens
commit d74419495633493c9cd3f2bbeb7f3529d0edded6 upstream. Sebastian reported a crash caused by a jump label mismatch after resume. This happens because we do not save the kernel text section during suspend and therefore also do not restore it during resume, but use the kernel image that restores the old system. This means that after a suspend/resume cycle we lost all modifications done to the kernel text section. The reason for this is the pfn_is_nosave() function, which incorrectly returns that read-only pages don't need to be saved. This is incorrect since we mark the kernel text section read-only. We still need to make sure to not save and restore pages contained within NSS and DCSS segment. To fix this add an extra case for the kernel text section and only save those pages if they are not contained within an NSS segment. The core VM already knows about VM_FAULT_SIGBUS, but cannot return a "you should SIGSEGV" error, because the SIGSEGV case was generally handled by the caller - usually the architecture fault handler. That results in lots of duplication - all the architecture fault handlers end up doing very similar "look up vma, check permissions, do retries etc" - but it generally works. However, there are cases where the VM actually wants to SIGSEGV, and applications _expect_ SIGSEGV. In particular, when accessing the stack guard page, libsigsegv expects a SIGSEGV. And it usually got one, because the stack growth is handled by that duplicated architecture fault handler. However, when the generic VM layer started propagating the error return from the stack expansion in commit fee7e49d4514 ("mm: propagate error from stack expansion even for guard page"), that now exposed the existing VM_FAULT_SIGBUS result to user space. And user space really expected SIGSEGV, not SIGBUS. To fix that case, we need to add a VM_FAULT_SIGSEGV, and teach all those duplicate architecture fault handlers about it. They all already have the code to handle SIGSEGV, so it's about just tying that new return value to the existing code, but it's all a bit annoying. This is the mindless minimal patch to do this. A more extensive patch would be to try to gather up the mostly shared fault handling logic into one generic helper routine, and long-term we really should do that cleanup. Just from this patch, you can generally see that most architectures just copied (directly or indirectly) the old x86 way of doing things, but in the meantime that original x86 model has been improved to hold the VM semaphore for shorter times etc and to handle VM_FAULT_RETRY and other "newer" things, so it would be a good idea to bring all those improvements to the generic case and teach other architectures about them too. 2015-04-23arm64: respect mem= for EFIMark Rutland
When booting with EFI, we acquire the EFI memory map after parsing the early params. This unfortuantely renders the option useless as we call memblock_enforce_memory_limit (which uses memblock_remove_range behind the scenes) before we've added any memblocks. We end up removing nothing, then adding all of memory later when efi_init calls reserve_regions. Instead, we can log the limit and apply this later when we do the rest of the memblock work in memblock_init, which should work regardless of the presence of EFI. At the same time we may as well move the early parameter into arm64's mm/init.c, close to arm64_memblock_init. Any memory which must be mapped (e.g. for use by EFI runtime services) must be mapped explicitly reather than relying on the linear mapping, which may be truncated as a result of a mem= option passed on the kernel command line. Anton has a busy ppc64le KVM box where guests sometimes hit the infamous "kernel BUG at kernel/smpboot.c:134!" issue during boot: BUG_ON(td->cpu != smp_processor_id()); Basically a per CPU hotplug thread scheduled on the wrong CPU. The oops output confirms it: CPU: 0 Comm: watchdog/130 The problem is that we aren't ensuring the CPU active bit is set for the secondary before allowing the master to continue on. The master unparks the secondary CPU's kthreads and the scheduler looks for a CPU to run on. It calls select_task_rq() and realises the suggested CPU is not in the cpus_allowed mask. It then ends up in select_fallback_rq(), and since the active bit isnt't set we choose some other CPU to run on. This seems to have been introduced by 6acbfb96976f "sched: Fix hotplug vs. set_cpus_allowed_ptr()", which changed from setting active before online to setting active after online. However that was in turn fixing a bug where other code assumed an active CPU was also online, so we can't just revert that fix. The simplest fix is just to spin waiting for both active & online to be set. We already have a barrier prior to set_cpu_online() (which also sets active), to ensure all other setup is completed before online & active are set. Since we didn't get here via a call, we need to include the nop before the real start to make up for it. */ .long .LSTART_sigreturn-1-. /* PC-relative start address */ But commit 69d0627a7f6e ("x86 vDSO: reorder vdso32 code") from 2.6.25 replaced .org __kernel_vsyscall+32,0x90 by ALIGN right before __kernel_sigreturn. Of course, ALIGN need not generate any NOP in there. Esp. gcc5 collapses vclock_gettime.o and int80.o together with no generated NOPs as "ALIGN". So fix this by adding to that point at least a single NOP and make the function ALIGN possibly with more NOPs then. Kudos for reporting and diagnosing should go to Richard. 2015-03-26crypto: aesni - fix memory usage in GCM decryptionStephan Mueller

The kernel crypto API logic requires the caller to provide the length of (ciphertext || authentication tag) as cryptlen for the AEAD decryption operation. Thus, the cipher implementation must calculate the size of the plaintext output itself and cannot simply use cryptlen. The RFC4106 GCM decryption operation tries to overwrite cryptlen memory in req->dst. As the destination buffer for decryption only needs to hold the plaintext memory but cryptlen references the input buffer holding (ciphertext || authentication tag), the assumption of the destination buffer length in RFC4106 GCM operation leads to a too large size. This patch simply uses the already calculated plaintext size. In addition, this patch fixes the offset calculation of the AAD buffer pointer: as mentioned before, cryptlen already includes the size of the tag. Thus, the tag does not need to be added. With the addition, the AAD will be written beyond the already allocated buffer. Note, this fixes a kernel crash that can be triggered from user space via AF_ALG(aead) -- simply use the libkcapi test application from [1] and update it to use rfc4106-gcm-aes. Using [1], the changes were tested using CAVS vectors to demonstrate that the crypto operation still delivers the right results. Next, we can't just drop to a memcpy() call in the forward copy case where dst <= src. The reason is that the cache initializing stores used in the Niagara memcpy() implementations can end up clearing out cache lines before we've sourced their original contents completely. For example, considering NG4memcpy, the main unrolled loop begins like this: load src + 0x00 load src + 0x08 load src + 0x10 load src + 0x18 load src + 0x20 store dst + 0x00 Assume dst is 64 byte aligned and let's say that dst is src - 8 for this memcpy() call. That store at the end there is the one to the first line in the cache line, thus clearing the whole line, which thus clobbers "src + 0x28" before it even gets loaded. To avoid this, just fall through to a simple copy only mildly optimized for the case where src and dst are 8 byte aligned and the length is a multiple of 8 as well. We could get fancy and call GENmemcpy() but this is good enough for how this thing is actually used.
