2009-01-02tty: Remove some pointless castsAlan Cox
disc_data and driver_data are void * Signed-off-by: Alan Cox <alan@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2009-01-02tty: relock generic_serialAlan Cox
Switch generic_serial to do port count locking via the tty_port structure ready for moving to a common port wait routine. Keep the old driver lock for internal calling so we don't risk messing up the drivers below until we are ready. Still needs kref conversions Signed-off-by: Alan Cox <alan@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2009-01-02tty_port: Add a port level carrier detect operationAlan Cox
This is the first step to generalising the various pieces of waiting logic duplicated in all sorts of serial drivers. Signed-off-by: Alan Cox <alan@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2008-10-13tty: Remove lots of NULL checksAlan Cox
Many tty drivers contain 'can't happen' checks against NULL pointers passed in by the tty layer. These have never been possible to occur. Even more importantly if they ever do occur we want to know as it would be a serious bug. Signed-off-by: Alan Cox <alan@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2008-07-20gs: use tty_portAlan Cox
Switch drivers using the old "generic serial" driver to use the tty_port structures Signed-off-by: Alan Cox <alan@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2008-04-30drivers/char: replace remaining __FUNCTION__ occurrencesHarvey Harrison

2008-04-30tty/serial: lay the foundations for the next set of reworksAlan Cox
- Stop drivers calling their own flush method indirectly, it obfuscates code and it will change soon anyway - A few more lock_kernel paths temporarily needed in some driver internal waiting code - Remove private put_char method that does a write call for one char - we have that anyway - Most but not yet all of the termios copy under lock fixing (some has other dependencies to follow) - Note a few locking bugs in drivers found in the process - Kill remaining [ab]users of TIOCG/SSOFTCAR in the driver, these must go to fix the termios locking Signed-off-by: Alan Cox <alan@redhat.com> Cc: Jiri Slaby <jirislaby@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2008-04-18drivers: Remove unnecessary inclusions of asm/semaphore.hMatthew Wilcox
None of these files use any of the functionality promised by asm/semaphore.h. It's possible that they rely on it dragging in some unrelated header file, but I can't build all these files, so we'll have fix any build failures as they come up. Signed-off-by: Matthew Wilcox <willy@linux.intel.com>
2007-07-16genericserial: remove bogus optimisation check and dead code pathsAlan Cox
We've been using the 'new locking' for a long time now so it seems pointless keeping the old one around. Remove it and undo the macros it uses back into real code for readability. Remove the bogus 'no termios change' checks. 2007-03-27[PATCH] generic_serial: fix decoding of baud rateDaniel Drake
Commit d720bc4b8fc5d6d179ef094908d4fbb5e436ffad partially removed a private implementation of baud speed decoding. However it doesn't seem to be complete: after the speed is decoded, it is still being used as an index to a local speed table (array overrun, no doubt). This was found by Graham Murray who noticed it caused a 2.6.19 regression with the SX driver: https://bugs.gentoo.org/170554 Signed-off-by: Daniel Drake <dsd@gentoo.org> Acked-by: Alan Cox <alan@lxorguk.ukuu.org.uk> Cc: Russell King <rmk@arm.linux.org.uk> Cc: <stable@kernel.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2007-02-11[PATCH] Char: tty_wakeup cleanupJiri Slaby
tty_wakeup cleanup - remove wake_up_interruptible(&tty->write_wait) surrounding tty_wakup(tty); - substitute tty->ldisc.write_wakeup(tty) + wake_up() by tty_wakeup(tty); Signed-off-by: Jiri Slaby <jirislaby@gmail.com> Cc: Alan Cox <alan@lxorguk.ukuu.org.uk> Acked-by: Tilman Schmidt <tilman@imap.cc> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2006-12-08[PATCH] tty: switch to ktermiosAlan Cox
This is the grungy swap all the occurrences in the right places patch that goes with the updates. At this point we have the same functionality as before (except that sgttyb() returns speeds not zero) and are ready to begin turning new stuff on providing nobody reports lots of bugs If you are a tty driver author converting an out of tree driver the only impact should be termios->ktermios name changes for the speed/property setting functions from your upper layers. If you are implementing your own TCGETS function before then your driver was broken already and its about to get a whole lot more painful for you so please fix it 8) Also fill in c_ispeed/ospeed on init for most devices, although the current code will do this for you anyway but I'd like eventually to lose that extra paranoia [akpm@osdl.org: bluetooth fix] [mp3@de.ibm.com: sclp fix] [mp3@de.ibm.com: warning fix for tty3270] [hugh@veritas.com: fix tty_ioctl powerpc build] [jdike@addtoit.com: uml: fix ->set_termios declaration] Signed-off-by: Alan Cox <alan@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Martin Peschke <mp3@de.ibm.com> Acked-by: Peter Oberparleiter <oberpar@de.ibm.com> Cc: Cornelia Huck <cornelia.huck@de.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Hugh Dickins <hugh@veritas.com> Signed-off-by: Jeff Dike <jdike@addtoit.com> Cc: Paolo 'Blaisorblade' Giarrusso <blaisorblade@yahoo.it> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-10-04[PATCH] char: kill unneeded memsetsJiri Slaby
char, another tmp_buf cleanup No need to allocate one page as a side buffer. It's no more used. Clean this (de)allocs of this useless memory pages in char subtree. 2006-09-29[PATCH] generic_serial: remove private decoding of baud rate bitsAlan Cox
The driver has no business doing this work itself any more and hasn't for some years. When the new speed stuff goes in this will break entirely so fix it up ready. Also remove a #if 0 around a comment.... 2006-03-23[PATCH] sem2mutex: serial ->port_write_mutexIngo Molnar
Semaphore to mutex conversion. The conversion was generated via scripts, and the result was validated automatically via a script as well. Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-01-14[PATCH] remove unused tmp_buf_sem'sAdrian Bunk
tmp_buf_sem sems to be a common name for something completely unused... Signed-off-by: Adrian Bunk <bunk@stusta.de> Acked-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de> ("usb portion") Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
