2013-04-26s390: system call path micro optimizationMartin Schwidefsky
Add a pointer to the system call table to the thread_info structure. The TIF_31BIT bit is set or cleared by SET_PERSONALITY exactly once for the lifetime of a process. With the pointer to the correct system call table in thread_info the system call code in entry64.S path can drop the check for TIF_31BIT which saves a couple of instructions. 2013-04-23s390/compat: remove ptrace compat definitions from uapi header fileHeiko Carstens
The compat definitions are not part of the uapi. So move them to s390's private compat header file. Signed-off-by: Heiko Carstens <heiko.carstens@de.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>

2012-09-26s390/crashdump: move fill_cpu_elf_notes() prototype to header fileHeiko Carstens
Move fill_cpu_elf_notes() prototype to header file. This way we get compile errors if e.g. the number of function parameters get changed. Otherwise it's possible to change just the definition and everything else still compiles fine, but the result is broken code. 2012-09-26s390: add support for transactional memoryMartin Schwidefsky
Allow user-space processes to use transactional execution (TX). If the TX facility is available user space programs can use transactions for fine-grained serialization based on the data objects that are referenced during a transaction. This is useful for lockless data structures and speculative compiler optimizations. Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>
2012-08-30s390/32: Don't clobber personality flags on execHeiko Carstens
In native 32 bit mode the personality flags were not correctly inherited. This is the s390 version of 59e4c3a2 "powerpc/32: Don't clobber personality flags on exec". 2012-07-20s390/comments: unify copyright messages and remove file namesHeiko Carstens
Remove the file name from the comment at top of many files. In most cases the file name was wrong anyway, so it's rather pointless. Also unify the IBM copyright statement. We did have a lot of sightly different statements and wanted to change them one after another whenever a file gets touched. However that never happened. Instead people start to take the old/"wrong" statements to use as a template for new files. So unify all of them in one go. Signed-off-by: Heiko Carstens <heiko.carstens@de.ibm.com>
2012-05-24s390/headers: replace __s390x__ with CONFIG_64BIT where possibleHeiko Carstens
Replace __s390x__ with CONFIG_64BIT in all places that are not exported to userspace or guarded with #ifdef __KERNEL__. Signed-off-by: Heiko Carstens <heiko.carstens@de.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>

2011-09-26[S390] Do not clobber personality flags on execMartin Schwidefsky
Analog to git commit 59e4c3a2fe9cb1681bb2cff508ff79466f7585ba do not clear the additional personality flags on exec. We need to inherit the personality bits in PER_MASK across exec. Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>
2011-05-23[S390] Remove data execution protectionMartin Schwidefsky
The noexec support on s390 does not rely on a bit in the page table entry but utilizes the secondary space mode to distinguish between memory accesses for instructions vs. data. The noexec code relies on the assumption that the cpu will always use the secondary space page table for data accesses while it is running in the secondary space mode. Up to the z9-109 class machines this has been the case. Unfortunately this is not true anymore with z10 and later machines. The load-relative-long instructions lrl, lgrl and lgfrl access the memory operand using the same addressing-space mode that has been used to fetch the instruction. This breaks the noexec mode for all user space binaries compiled with march=z10 or later. The only option is to remove the current noexec support. 2011-01-12[S390] mmap: consider stack address randomizationHeiko Carstens
Consider stack address randomization when calulating mmap_base for flexible mmap layout . Because of address randomization the stack address can be up to 8MB lower than STACK_TOP. When calculating mmap_base this isn't taken into account, which could lead to the case that the gap between the real stack top and mmap_base is lower than what ulimit specifies for the maximum stack size. 2009-12-16elf: kill USE_ELF_CORE_DUMPChristoph Hellwig
Currently all architectures but microblaze unconditionally define USE_ELF_CORE_DUMP. The microblaze omission seems like an error to me, so let's kill this ifdef and make sure we are the same everywhere. 2009-01-23[S390] personality: fix personality loss on execveHeiko Carstens
Use the personality() macro to mask out all bits that are not relevant for the personality type. The personality field contains bits for other things as well, so without masking out the not relevalent bits the comparison won't do what is expected.
